Lasinthos Eco Park

At the Lasithi Plateau, famous for its plain and its thousands windmills, there where according to mythology Jupiter, the father of gods and men was born, near the village of Saint George, "LASINTHOS" is located – the only Traditional Village of Ecological Tourism in Crete.
"LASINTHOS" was named after the ancient word "Λάσινθος" (Lasinthos-Lasithi) which was found on ancient scriptures in various places of Crete and it is at least 3.500 old.
It is a hospitable and serene place, very close to the noisy north coast of Crete (just a few kilometers from Malia), but at the same time so close to the heart of the Cretan mainland.
Combining the peaceful, bright green and secure environment at the foot of the mountain chain Dikti with the incomparable and unchangeable beauty of the alternate wild nature, it (Lasinthos) composes an extraordinary unforgettable picture to the visitor. It is a brilliant example of Agro Rural Eco Projects in Greece.
The path leads the visitor to the farm with the animals that live in "Lasinthos".
There, under completely natural circumstances, live animals from Crete and not only from Crete like : chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, impressive peacocks, pigeons, noisy partridges, pheasants, quails, gangling ostriches, wild boars and goats.
One can also admire the famous Cretan kri-kri, the shy badger that hides in his conduits, the exquisite deer that display gracefully their branchful antlers, the small ponies and the proud horses that do not hesitate to come close to the visitor for a caress on their well-shaped mane.

The village of Lasinthos is very active. It has got a ceramics workshop, spinning-wheel and loom, a modern unit of processing sweet-smelling plants and honey.
Also it has workshops that perhaps you had never had the chance to visit before such as workshops of woodcarving and waxwork.
And of course from the traditional Cretan Lasinthos village it could not be possible not to have the distillation of raki or else the "rakiboiler" where unforgettable nights are organized with a lot of fun and singing!

Its raining…frogs in Greece

Several years ago in Perea million frogs had drowned the streets. The residents were asking teachers and scientists to know what happens. Indeed, to describe the event, said, "its rained frogs”.

Patra at Guinness book

The city of Patras Greece, is already in the Guiness book, after the passage 2926, motorcyclists from Rio - Antirion last Saturday morning. The previous Guinness record for simultaneous passage of motorcyclists on a bridge was 2552.Fantastic picture of thousands of spectators who had gathered around the bridge.

Harley for a Guinness record in bridge Rio - Antirion Patras

Χάρλεϊ για ρεκόρ γκίνες στη γέφυρα Ρίο – Αντίριο στην Πάτρα

Πολύ μεγαλύτερη των προσδοκιών αποδεικνύεται η προσέλευση των μοτοσικλετιστών Harley Davidnson, οι οποίοι τις τελευταίες ημέρες φιλοξενούνται στην Πάτρα στο πλαίσιο του Super Rally, της Ετήσιας Ευρωπαϊκής Συνάντησης της Harley Davidson.
Η πλαζ έχει κατακλυστεί από μηχανόβιους, ενώ το ίδιο συμβαίνει σε πολλά σημεία της πόλης με επίκεντρο το εμπορικό κέντρο, καθώς και τα παραλιακά μαγαζιά. Παρά την κακοκαιρία του τελευταίου 24ώρου οι μοτοσικλετιστές δεν πτοήθηκαν μιας και είναι συνηθισμένοι σε παρόμοιες καιρικές συνθήκες, ενώ χαρακτηριστική είναι η δήλωση ενός 75χρονου οδηγού Harley ο οποίος ήρθε στην Πάτρα από την Νορβηγία περνώντας ακόμη και μέσα από χιόνια! Τους πιστούς της "Harley Davidson" δεν τους σταματά τίποτα. Είναι χαρακτηριστικό ότι παρά τον άστατο καιρό χθες περίπου 1000 από αυτούς βρέθηκαν στην Ναύπακτο. Στην πόλη της Πάτρας έχει δημιουργηθεί ένα γιορταστικό κλίμα που θυμίζει Καρναβάλι στα καλύτερά του. Η κορύφωση της διοργάνωσης αναμένεται αύριο Σάββατο 22 Μαΐου στις 10.30 το πρωί, όπου 2.500 μοτοσικλέτες θα περάσουν από την Γέφυρα Ρίου – Αντιρρίου, παρουσία Επιτροπής από τον φορέα που εκδίδει το Βιβλίο Γκίνες. Αναμένεται να είναι η πιο πολυάριθμη, ταυτόχρονη διέλευση μοτοσικλετών από μία Γέφυρα, που έχει συμβεί ποτέ στα παγκόσμια χρονικά. Επίσης, για όσους θέλουν να θαυμάσουν από κοντά τα "τέρατα" τις δίκυκλης οδήγησης, αύριο στις 2 το μεσημέρι διοργανώνεται "Bike Show" στην Πλατεία Γεωργίου με σκοπό την επίδειξη των μηχανών και τη βράβευση των καλύτερων από αυτών.

Greece to support 2020 Istanbul Olympic bid

The signing of the Olympic Truce initiative by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan concluded a landmark two-day visit by the Turkish leader to Athens.


Appearing at a brief ceremony in front of the imposing Panathinaiko Stadium in central Athens -- the venue for the first modern Olympic Games of 1896 -- with his counterpart, George Papandreou, Erdogan referred to the "great honor in signing my name to this book; to put my signature for a world of peace".


Papandreou, a major proponent of the Olympic Truce concept since his tenure as foreign minister ahead of the 2004 Athens Games, emphasised the importance of Turkey's support for the idea, which sends out a clear message "by Turkey and Greece to the world".

Moreover, Papandreou said Greece will actively support a bid by Istanbul to host the 2020 Olympic Games.
"We are particularly pleased that Greece has expressed its support, and will extend its know-how (in case Istanbul hosts the Games)," Erdogan added.
Earlier, the two leaders had a private lunch with their spouses at the central Athens hotel where the Erdogan couple stayed.

Holidays in Greece are very cheap for Swiss

Η εφημερίδα "Βasler Ζeitung" (8/5), με τίτλο «Οι διακοπές στην Ελλάδα ιδιαίτερα φθηνές», δημοσιεύει συνέντευξη με τον Christoph Wydler, ειδικό σε θέματα τουρισμού στο Ινστιτούτο Τουριστικής Οικονομίας στο Πανεπιστήμιο της Λουκέρνης, για το τουριστικό ρεύμα από την Ελβετία προς την Ελλάδα. Ο κ. Wydler κρίνει ότι οι εικόνες στα ΜΜΕ με την κοινωνική αναταραχή και τις απεργίες στην Ελλάδα θα αποτρέψει τουρίστες να επισκεφθούν την Αθήνα, αλλά εκτιμά ότι δεν θα επηρεασθεί η κίνηση προς τα νησιά.

Πιστεύει επίσης ότι οι διακοπές στην Ελλάδα θα είναι φέτος φθηνότερες έως 30% και λόγω καλύτερων προσφορών από ταξιδιωτικά γραφεία και λόγω του ασθενούς ευρώ έναντι του ελβετικού φράγκου από το οποίο επωφελούνται οι Ελβετοί τουρίστες. Ο ίδιος συνιστά στους Ελβετούς να επισκεφθούν την Ελλάδα, αλλά να διαθέτουν καλή ενημέρωση από τα ταξιδιωτικά γραφεία, τις αεροπορικές εταιρείες και το υπουργείο Εξωτερικών της Ελβετίας.

Επίσης, σημειώνει ότι δεν δικαιολογείται πανικός, ότι στη σημερινή συγκυρία ο τουριστικός κλάδος αποτελεί μια όλο και σημαντικότερη πηγή εισοδήματος για την Ελλάδα κι αν κάποιος ακυρώσει τις διακοπές του στην Ελλάδα, συμβάλλει στην περαιτέρω εξασθένηση της ελληνικής οικονομίας. Ο εκπρόσωπος του ελβετικού υπουργείου Εξωτερικών πρόσθεσε ότι μέχρι σήμερα κανείς Ελβετός δεν χρειάστηκε βοήθεια στην Ελλάδα.

The Championship in Patras - Greece in the women's handball

One more Greek Championship in the women handball won yesterday the Patras team A.C. Ormi Loux. This is the 4th cup of the history of the team and the third dabble. Ormi beat yesterday Nea Ionia 28-27 in the second mats of play off.

For the capital of Achaia is very important because one more title comes, from a team that has a protagonist role in Greece and furthermore do great work abroad.
Leading for the Ormi was the captain of National team of Greece Eleni Poimenidou and the international player Vivi Kazakos, who showed once again a great sample of their talent and experience.

Για την Αχαϊκή πρωτεύουσα είναι πολύ σημαντικό ότι έρχεται ένας ακόμα τίτλος, από μια ομάδα που πρωταγωνιστεί εντός ελληνικών συνόρων, ενώ κάνει και σπουδαίες προσπάθειες στο εξωτερικό.
Κορυφαίες για την Ορμή ήταν η αρχηγός της Εθνικής Ελλάδας Ελένη Ποιμενίδου και η διεθνής Βιβή Καζάκη, που έδειξαν για ακόμα μια φορά σπουδαία δείγματα του ταλέντου τους και της εμπειρίας τους.
