Opens the "gates" of the Samaria Gorge

Tomorrow the "gates" of the Samaria Gorge will be opened for the entire length of the journey, the White Mountains National Forest.

As announced by the Forest Directorate of Chania after a decision by the Secretary General of the Region of Crete, Park open from Saturday, May 1.

The entry is permitted all along the main path (Xiloskalo - St. Roumeli).

The Communication Division of Forestry noted, "if the weather changed to the extent that problems arise in the smooth passage of visitors, the Department of Forestry Chania may decide to regulate the movement and to prohibit the entry of visitors to the National Forest.

Όπως ανακοίνωσε η Διεύθυνση Δασών Χανίων μετά από απόφαση του Γενικού Γραμματέα της Περιφέρειας Κρήτης ο Δρυμός ανοίγει από το Σάββατο 1η Μαΐου.

Η είσοδος επιτρέπεται σε όλο το μήκος του κεντρικού μονοπατιού (Ξυλόσκαλο - Αγία Ρουμέλη).

Στην ανακοίνωση της Διεύθυνσης Δασών επισημαίνεται, «αν οι καιρικές συνθήκες μεταβληθούν, σε βαθμό που να δημιουργούνται προβλήματα στην ομαλή διέλευση των επισκεπτών, η Δ/νση Δασών Χανίων μπορεί να αποφασίσει για την ρύθμιση της διέλευσης ή και να απαγορεύσει την είσοδο των επισκεπτών στον Εθνικό Δρυμό» .

Fashion icon Jean-Paul Gaultier awarded in Greece

French haute couture fashion designer and 'enfant terrible' Jean-Paul Gaultier received an award for his contribution to fashion, art and culture during an event organised in Athens on Saturday by the French Institute of Athens and the French Embassy.

The award was presented to the designer by Greece's Deputy Culture and Tourism Minister Angela Gerekou, during a special ceremony that formed part of the 11th French Film Festival in Athens, which began on April 15.

Gerekou, after praising Gaultier's decisive influence on the world of fashion, also noted that fashion and film were two sectors that needed great support in Greece, stressing that with the proper ground work they might well become a tourist attraction.

Gaultier, one of the main sponsors of the film festival, said he was happy to be back in a country that he loved and warmly praised the statuette made by Zolotas jewellers that was presented to him by the minister, noting that "this is the first time I am holding a real Zolotas'.

After the award ceremony, there was a screening of the film "Le Jour d'Avant - Jean-Paul Gaultier" - a documentary about the last 36 hours before a fashion show.

The event was also addressed by French Ambassador to Athens Christophe Farnaud and attended by Deputy Citizens' Protection Minister Spyros Vougias, as well as representatives of the fashion and film industry.

The hottest March ever

The March 2010 was the warmest in the history of our planet, from 1880 there is record temperatures recorded in accordance with the National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration of USA (NOAA). Moreover, on March 17th straight cover of the Arctic ice has been below average, an indication of the influence of "greenhouse gases". Specifically, the Arctic ice had last month a total area of 15.1 million square kilometers, 4.1% lower than average for the period 1979-2000.
The new data reinforce the arguments of those who believe that climate change leads to an urgent crisis that must be tackled globally. The UN and many countries are seeking a legally binding agreement, but this was not possible at the summit last December in Copenhagen.

Συγκεκριμένα, οι αρκτικοί πάγοι είχαν τον προηγούμενο μήνα συνολική έκταση 15,1 εκατ. τετραγωνικών χιλιομέτρων, κατά 4,1% μικρότερη από τον μέσο όρο της περιόδου 1979-2000.
Τα νέα στοιχεία ενισχύουν τα επιχειρήματα όσων πιστεύουν ότι η κλιματική αλλαγή οδηγεί σε επείγουσα κρίση και πρέπει να αντιμετωπιστεί σε παγκόσμιο επίπεδο. Ο ΟΗΕ και πολλές χώρες αναζητούν μια δεσμευτική νομικά συμφωνία, όμως κάτι τέτοιο δεν κατέστη δυνατό στη σύνοδο κορυφής του περασμένου Δεκεμβρίου στην Κοπεγχάγη.

After six years, opened the Kallimarmaro

Jump over the Corinth Canal

A single jump on the Isthmus of Corinth held yesterday with his motorbike the renowned champion of freestyle motocross Robbie Maddison.

The Australian 28chronos took off from the southwestern side of the Isthmus, and having jumped 85 meters in length, landed safely on the opposite side.

The Robbie Maddison became the first fmx rider who tried and managed to literally throw the motorcycle, Honda 500, on the Isthmus of Corinth. The Maddison took time from the specially constructed ramp off, accelerating motorcycle touching 125chlm / h, defied strong winds and vortices "flew" over the waters of the Isthmus, at a height of 95 meters.

Ο Robbie Maddison έγινε ο πρώτος fmx αναβάτης που επιχείρησε και κατάφερε κυριολεκτικά να πετάξει με τη μοτοσυκλέτα του, Honda 500, πάνω από τον Ισθμό της Κορίνθου. Ο Maddison πήρε φόρα από την ειδικά κατασκευασμένη ράμπα απογείωσης, επιτάχυνε τη μοτοσυκλέτα του αγγίζοντας τα 125χλμ/ ώρα, αψήφησε τις ισχυρές δίνες των ανέμων και «πέταξε» πάνω από τα νερά του Ισθμού, σε ύψος 95 μέτρων.

Increased flights from Ukraine to Heraklion 50%

The awards for the best participation has received the island of Crete in the international Tourism exhibition which was held in Kievo, at Oukrania.

Αύξηση των πτήσεων από την Ουκρανία προς το Ηράκλειο κατά 50%

To Βραβείο της καλύτερης παρουσίας απέσπασε το ενιαίο περίπτερο των τεσσάρων νομαρχιακών αυτοδιοικήσεων της Κρήτης στο πλαίσιο της συμμετοχής της στη διεθνή έκθεση τουρισμού που πραγματοποιήθηκε στο Κίεβο.

Επικεφαλής της κρητικής συμμετοχής, η οποία αποτέλεσε τον κύριο πόλο έλξης των τουριστικών πρακτόρων, αλλά και του κοινού του Κιέβου ήταν η Νομαρχιακή Αυτοδιοίκηση Ηρακλείου.

Στη σημαντική αυτή διεθνή έκθεση συμμετείχε για την προώθηση του τουρισμού και την προβολή των συγκριτικών πλεονεκτημάτων του νομού, αντιπροσωπεία της Νομαρχίας Ηρακλείου με επικεφαλής τον εντεταλμένο Νομαρχιακό Σύμβουλο Τουριστικής Προβολής Δημήτρη Χρονάκη, ο οποίος και συναντήθηκε με την Αντιδήμαρχο Κιέβου κα Olena Palchikova, υπεύθυνη Πολιτισμού και Τουρισμού. Μάλιστα η κα Palchikova δεσμεύτηκε για κάθε δυνατή προσπάθεια προκειμένου να αυξηθεί η τουριστική κίνηση από την Ουκρανία προς την Κρήτη.

Στο περίπτερο της Κρήτης πραγματοποιήθηκαν σημαντικές συναντήσεις και επαφές με διεθνείς τουριστικούς πράκτορες και δημοσιογράφους. Οι ίδιοι ανέφεραν αύξηση των πτήσεων από την Ουκρανία προς το Ηράκλειο, κατά 50% περίπου.

Greeks start travelling in the U.S.A. without visa

Without visa from the last Monday will be traveling to America all the Greeks. However, for all countries so that Greek citizens should do some things before leaving for America.

According to an announcement by the American Embassy in Athens, those who wish to travel to the U.S. will have at least 72 hours before their departure to electronically submit a request to receive electronic travel authorization (known by its English acronym ESTA).

Then the number of e-travel authorization in hand, will go to the airport for their departure.

Approved Electronic Travel Authorisation (ESTA) which is valid for 2 years, can only be used for tourist or business trips and stay in the U.S. by 90 days.

In the Visa Waiver Program applies only to people with valid Greek passport is embedded electronic chip and issued after August 26, 2006.

Χωρίς βίζα πλέον από προχτές θα γίνονται τα ταξίδια προς την Αμερική και για τους Έλληνες. Ωστόσο, όπως για όλες τις χώρες έτσι και οι Έλληνες πολίτες θα πρέπει να κάνουν κάποιες ενέργειες πριν την αναχώρησή τους για την Αμερική.

Σύμφωνα με σχετική ανακοίνωση της Αμερικανικής Πρεσβείας στην Αθήνα, όσοι επιθυμούν να ταξιδέψουν προς τις ΗΠΑ, θα πρέπει τουλάχιστον 72 ώρες πριν την αναχώρησή τους να υποβάλλουν ηλεκτρονικά αίτηση ώστε να τους χορηγηθεί Ηλεκτρονική Έγκριση Ταξιδίου (γνωστή με το Αγγλικό ακρωνύμιο ESTA).
Στη συνέχεια, με τον αριθμό της Ηλεκτρονικής Έγκρισης Ταξιδίου ανά χείρας, θα πηγαίνουν στο αεροδρόμιο για την αναχώρηση τους.

Η εγκεκριμένη Ηλεκτρονική Έγκριση Ταξιδίου (ESTA) η οποία έχει ισχύ για 2 χρόνια, μπορεί να χρησιμοποιηθεί μόνο για τουριστικά ή επαγγελματικά ταξίδια και για παραμονή στις ΗΠΑ έως 90 ημέρες.

Το Πρόγραμμα Απαλλαγής της Βίζας ισχύει μόνο για άτομα με έγκυρο Ελληνικό διαβατήριο που έχει ενσωματωμένο ηλεκτρονικό τσιπ και έχει εκδοθεί μετά τις 26 Αυγούστου 2006.

Wax museum in Kavala

The fledgling museum opened its doors to the public just a week ago in Kipia Eleftheroupolis, Kavala.

Μουσείο κέρινων ομοιωμάτων αφιερωμένο σε σπουδαίες προσωπικότητες άνοιξε πριν από λίγες ημέρες στα Κηπιά Ελευθερούπολης της Καβάλας.
Μπορείς να συναντήσεις όπως οι παραπάνω να ανήκουν στη σφαίρα της φαντασίας, ωστόσο οι σπουδαίες αυτές φυσιογνωμίες δίνουν… ραντεβού στο Μουσείο Κέρινων Ομοιωμάτων του Θεόδωρου Κοκκινίδη.

Το νεοσύστατο μουσείο άνοιξε τις πύλες του για το κοινό μόλις πριν από μία εβδομάδα, στα Κηπιά Ελευθερούπολης, στην Καβάλα.

Σ' αυτό φιλοξενούνται κέρινα ομοιώματα σημαντικών Ελλήνων, όπως ο Ανδρέας Παπανδρέου, ο Κωνσταντίνος Καραμανλής, η Μελίνα Μερκούρη, η Αλίκη Βουγιουκλάκη, η Τζένη Καρέζη και η Μαρία Κάλλας, αλλά και εκπροσώποι του παγκόσμιου καλλιτεχνικού στερεώματος (Μάικλ Τζάκσον, Μαντόνα, Έλβις Πρίσλεϊ, κ.α.).
